Avengers Team May Also Be the Weirdest Version Ever

Man-Thing is Marvel Comics' main swamp monster. In Avengers Forever, variants of the character are given serious upgrades from the Marvel Universe. Avengers Forever is about to introduce one of Marvel Comics' strangest teams.

New promo art for the title's upcoming fifth issue, written by Jason Aaron with art by Jim Towe, showcases four variants of Man-Thing with the caption "Man-Things Assemble" beneath the image.

Man-Thing, a monstrous swamp creature, was created by Steve Gerber, Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway and Gray Morrow in 1971, first appearing in Savage Tales #1. Now, these different variants of the giant have been given the powers of the Sorcerer Supreme, Phoenix Force, Iron Fist and Starbrand.

Man-Thing variants not only arrive a year after the character's 50th anniversary, but at a time when all of these powers belong to new heroes. The main Marvel Universe's Iron Fist, Phoenix Force host, Sorcerer Supreme and Starbrand have all been replaced in recent time. While some of these characters existed in comics previously, others are still relatively new.

For existing characters stepping into new roles, Echo bonded with the Phoenix Force during the "Enter The Phoenix" arc of Aaron's Avengers run, a power she still holds currently. Meanwhile, following the death of Doctor Strange, his true love, Clea, has taken on the role of being Earth-616's Sorcerer Supreme while she tries to resurrect him in Strange. As for Starbrand and Iron Fist, two newer characters -- Brandy Selby and Lin Lie/Sword Master -- now hold those titles, with both being less than five years old since their creation for comics.

Taskmaster Keep Getting Hired When So Many Of His Students Are Failures?

Three of Taskmaster's students were humiliated in Venom: Lethal Protector #1. It wasn't the first time. Does this prove he's a terrible trainer?

Taskmaster's mutant abilities have always made him a threat to anyone in the Marvel Universe because he can copy the fighting skills of anyone in the Marvel Universe. Although initially introduced as an adversary of the Avengers, Taskmaster's entrepreneurial spirit in that first appearance quickly proved a stronger guiding light than a desire to do villainy.

A true mercenary, he has teamed up with fellow mercs like Deadpool and was even a member of Nick Fury's black ops Secret Avengers squad at one point.

Taskmaster has parlayed his abilities into an impressive side hustle. Given that he can mimic the skills of Hawkeye and Captain America perfectly, he's worked as a trainer since his introduction for clients from The Red Skull to The Avengers Initiative

While it's understandable that his abilities would help him get started in the field of training hired goons, his dubious track record makes it hard to believe he's still getting hired.
