Netflix Time-Travel Blockbuster Already Tipped To Be Movie Of The Year

Ryan Reynolds' new Netflix time-travel flick hasn’t even dropped yet, and it’s already tipped to be the movie of the year.  Marvel stars Zoe SaldaƱa and Mark Ruffalo and 13 Going on 30's Jennifer Garner star alongside Reynolds in The Adam Project.

Then there’s Shawn Levy in the director’s seat, whose name you’ll recognise as one of the producers on Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things.

The filmmaker is sticking to his sci-fi expertise with his latest project, which sees Reynolds play Adam, a time-traveller who crashes into the past trying to save the future.

He then happens to meet his 12-year-old self, played by newcomer Walker Scobell, and sets out to find his late father (Ruffalo) in the hopes of getting back to his own time.

If the trailer is anything to go by, sci-fi fans are sure to be thrilled as the movie looks like an action-packed affair with space crafts, gadgets and Reynolds just generally being hilarious.

Speaking of which, this week the Deadpool star shared a comment on Instagram from someone who saw a screening of the movie.

The fan wrote: "Ask me again in December and I'll still be saying The Adam Project is the best movie of 2022.

"You do not want to miss this."

Meanwhile, Netflix shared the trailer while posing the questions that the film seeks to explore: “Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go back in time to visit your childhood self?”

It’s safe to say that fans are hyped about the upcoming flick, with one writing: “Anything with Ryan Reynolds in it will be good.”

A second commented: “I would love to go back in time and visit my childhood self."

A third said: “Freakin' excited about this @netflix.

“#TheAdamProject is going to top charts 100 percent because of Scobell. What was that other person's name? Oh, @VancityReynolds too.”

Alongside the stellar cast and plot, The Adam Project is family friendly, and is said to be reminiscent of 80s sci-fi adventure classics such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Back to the Future.

Yep, it sounds like Netflix is onto a winner with this one. And the great news is you don’t have long to wait, as the movie will be available to stream from 11 March.

Ryan Reynolds Mark Ruffalo Urge Support for Ukraine

Marvel super hero sensations Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana took to the red carpet for Netflix’s sci-fi film “The Adam Project” Monday night, but the focus was on the real-life heroes helping Ukrainian refugees escape the country after Russia’s invasion.

“What we’re seeing is this incredible outpouring of goodwill toward Ukrainian people and democracy at a time when democracy has been under attack throughout the world by Putin and his cronies, including Tucker Carlson,” Ruffalo told Variety during the premiere at New York’s Lincoln Center. “It’s a beautiful representation of who we are as human beings and how we’ve come together, and the Ukrainian people are incredible. They’re heroes. [Ukraine President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy is a hero. That’s what it looks like when people come together to fight for something that’s right. I’m praying they succeed in what they’re trying to do,”

On Saturday, Reynolds announced that he and his wife Blake Lively would match up to $1 million in donations to help Ukrainian refugees through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

“We just felt that we were incredibly fortunate to be able to do something like that, and it’s hard not to elicit enormous empathy to the idea that families big and small are being told they have to flee their homes they’ve had their whole lives in a matter of minutes. I just can’t imagine how that would feel for a parent, let alone anybody,” Reynolds told Variety.

His co-star Jennifer Garner has also been sending supplies to Ukrainian families through the charity Save the Children.

“My heart goes out to the people in Ukraine. I’m thinking especially of the women and children,” Garner told Variety. “We work hand-in-hand with UNHCR and Red Cross to make sure, while they’re building shelters and refugee camps, that children, babies and mothers are specifically cared for, whether that’s psycho-emotional support, diapers, children’s clothing, shoes, socks, infant formula, baby food, toys, books, teddy bears, blankets, things they might not have grabbed as they left their homes and fled. [We are] trying to get education up and running for them while they figure out where they’re going to be next. I’m proud of that work and am happy to be supporting it.”

“The Adam Project” may be premiering at a turbulent time for the world, but director Shawn Levy, who worked with Reynolds on last year’s “Free Guy,” hopes that the film can serve as escapist art for viewers.

“It is a crazy time and it always feels weird to be celebrating something when there is such strife and hardship going on elsewhere,” Levy told Variety. “Certainly what I hold onto is the whole point of this movie was to make a human and emotional connective experience. That baseline humanity that movies and storytelling can reconnect us to has value.”

The time-traveling film stars not one, but two versions of Reynolds. One is an adult from the future and the other is a 12-year-old played by newcomer Walker Scobell. The adult Reynolds travels back in time to 2022 in order to stop time-hopping villains, and along the way he meets his younger self and reconnects with the past versions of his parents (Ruffalo and Garner) and future wife (Saldana).

Scobell said he learned a lot working with the older, A-list cast, and he even taught them a thing or two, like showing Garner how to play the popular video game “Among Us.” As for Ruffalo and Garner, “The Adam Project” turned into a mini “13 Going on 30” reunion 18 years after the classic rom-com released.

‘The Adam Project’: New Trailer Teases Ryan Reynolds’ Inter-Generational Sci-Fi Adventure

Netflix on Tuesday dropped the first official trailer and a new poster for its upcoming sci-fi drama The Adam Project, starring Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, and newcomer Walker Scobell. A teaser had previously been released a couple of weeks ago. The Adam Project is a major new title for the streamer  its third starring Reynolds, after 6 Underground and last year’s Red Notice. It also marks the second collaboration between Reynolds and director Shawn Levy, who hit a home run in 2021 with Free Guy.

The Adam Project tells the story of a time-traveling pilot who teams up with his younger self and his late father “to come to terms with his past while saving the future.” Reynolds plays the pilot, Adam Reed, while Scobell plays his younger self, and Ruffalo appears as his father. The new trailer teases the nostalgia-heavy tone that Levy has perfected over the years as the filmmaker behind not just the underrated Real Steel but also Netflix’s smash hit series Stranger Things.

We also get a good look at some remarkable action set-pieces, including a forest chase and a combat sequence outside a lodge. While the trailer doesn’t reveal too much about the plot — we know that Adam has had to recruit his younger self because the future is under threat — it does reveal that the central thrust of Adam’s mission is to stop time travel from ever being invented.
