Squid Game Star Lee Jung Jae Signs With US

Actor Lee Jung Jae has officially signed with one of the biggest talents and sports agencies in the United States, CAA (Creative Artists Agency)! The actor’s Korean agency, Artist Company, announced the news on February 26, stating, “With CAA’s global network as a foundation, Lee Jung Jae will become even more active in the global market, including the United States. He will not only be active as an actor, but also as a producer and a director.”


Although Lee Jung Jae has been an A-List actor in South Korea for many years, the star received major international attention for his role in Netflix’s 2021 global phenomenon, ‘Squid Game’. With this new step, Lee Jung Jae will be joining Creative Artists Agency’s star-studded roster of big, global names like Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, George Clooney, and director Steven Spielberg. 


Recently, Lee Jung Jae became the first Asian actor ever to be nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. The actor will be in attendance at the ceremony on February 27, along with fellow ‘Squid Game’ stars Jung Ho Yeon and Park Hae Soo. Additionally, Lee Jung Jae was also nominated for Best Actor at the Gotham Awards, the Critics’ Choice Awards, as well as at the Golden Globes.


Along with being a prolific actor, Lee Jung Jae is also a businessman and a former model. He first began his acting career through the television series ‘The Young Man’ in 1994. The star was selected as Gallup Korea's Film Actor of the Year, in December 2021.


Squid Game Star Lee Jung-Jae Signs With CAA


Lee Jung-Jae, protagonist of Netflix’s smash series Squid Game, has signed with CAA for representation as a director, producer and actor.


Lee played character Seong Gi-Hun in Squid Game, the survival drama series that has garnered four Screen Actors Guild award nominations, including Male Actor in a Drama Series for Lee. This makes Lee the first male TV performer to solely earn SAG Award recognition for a fully non-English language role.


In addition, Lee was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Actor – Drama Series and the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series, breaking another record for the first male actor from Asia to receive individual nominations across all three award shows in those categories.


For his next project, Lee will make his directorial debut with feature Hunt, which he will also star in alongside Jung Woo-Sung. The film was also written and is being produced by Lee. Hunt will be distributed in Korea by Megabox Plus M.


In December 2021, the well known Korean actor was selected as Gallup Korea’s Film Actor of the Year. His other credits include Korean movies Deliver Us From Evil, The Face Reader, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Treasure Island and the Along With The Gods franchise. TV credits include Chief Of Staff and Triple. Last year the actor also appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

Lee Jung-Jae Signs With CAA Ahead Of ‘Squid Game’ Season 2


“Squid Game” star Lee Jung-Jae just signed with CAA, as per Deadline.


The agency has been scooping up talent left and right. Earlier this month, “Jeopardy!” champion Amy Schneider, who made headlines with the second-longest win streak in game show history, announced that she had signed with CAA after revealing plans to write a book.

Although Lee stars in as Seong Gi-Hun in the popular Netflix series “Squid Game,” he is not only seeking representation through CAA as an actor. He is also looking to produce and direct other projects as well.


Still, it’s his “Squid Game” role that has put Lee on the map and earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Best Male Actor in a Drama Series. Lee is the first male television actor to earn a SAG Award nomination for a non-English language role. The series has been nominated for four SAG Awards total.


Lee was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Actor in a Drama Series. He was also nominated for the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series. This latest nomination breaks another record and makes him the first male Asian actor to receive a Best Actor nomination across all three award show categories.


Lee Jung-Jae Is Preparing For His Next Film ‘Hunt’


Although fans are happy that “Squid Game” season 2 is officially a go, Lee is already looking ahead to his next project. He will be making his directorial debut in the film “Hunt,” in which he will also star alongside Jung Woo-Sung. Lee wrote and produced the film as well. The film will be released in Korea through Megabox Plus M and there is no word if it will eventually way to Netflix or another streaming service at a later date.

But What About Squid Game Season 2?


At the end of January, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed that “The Squid Game universe has just begun” in a fourth-quarter earnings call, where he also officially confirmed the show’s second season.


Ever since “Squid Game” became available for streaming in September 2021, it has proven to be an overwhelming success for the streaming service. The nine-episode series has been viewed by over 142 million households and has been streamed for over 1.6 billion hours. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk – who wrote, directed, and produced the series – has previously expressed that he would love to make a second season of the hit show, or even a third, so it looks like there is a lot more “Squid Game” to come.
